Multimedia Files

The Committee Members of the Libertarian Alliance are regular broadcasters on the radio and television, and regular public speakers. Below are links to recordings of some of the programmes in which we have taken part. Not everything we do is recorded. Not every recording we have has yet been digitised and uploaded. This is very much a work in progress. We will process files as often as we feel inspired to make the effort.

Here, outside the normal sequence, is the Botsford Archive, which is a most interesting series of interviews conducted around 1991 with libertarians and anti-libertarians.

The files are in much reduced mp3 or video format. Better quality recordings on CD and sometimes DVDs are available on request.

02/12/96 BBC TV, A Room with Two Views The Moral Value of Pornography Chris R. Tame This is a frustrating but often funny recording - best seen with the picture. Dr Tame makes a whole series of reasonable or at least arguable points, and is constantly interrupted by a silly weedy creature called John Johnson. This is a sound file of a television broadcast. A DVD is available for 5 inc postage. Ask Sean Gabb for details.
1996 Channel Four TV, If I were Prime Minister If I were Prime Minister Chris Tame A fascinating documentary. This shows Chris R. Tame at the height of his powers, and also shows much about the inner workings of the Libertarian Alliance.
17/10/96 Scottish Television, Trial by Night Whether the Police Should be Privatised Sean Gabb Sean makes a good, orthodox case for privatising the Monsters in Blue. The only reason for listening to this broadcast is that it shows how he was moving without fully realising from the old "privatise everything" school of libertarianism to a more sophisticated understanding of the need to shut down certain state activities on the grounds that they are too dangerous to civil society to be left even in private hands. This is a sound file of a television broadcast.
10/10/96 Granada Sky Broadcasting, Britain Talks Back The Legalisation of Drugs Sean Gabb Sean is on very good form. Particularly worth catching is his utter deflation of some "protecting the kiddies" health fascist on the ages of some of the "young people" he was puling about. This is a sound file of a television broadcast.
18/08/96 Radio Viva Gun Control Sean Gabb 30 minutes recorded of one hour - a shame, this as SIG on very good form! The programme includes "Dr Tobias Ezra Bernstein", who turned out not to be all that he claimed. Read here for details.

17/06/96 BBC Radio Northamptonshire Gun Control Sean Gabb 45 interesting minutes with Ann Pearston of the Snowdrop Campaign - here she admits to wanting to live in a "slave state"! She got her gun ban - an look how much safer it has made the country.
24/03/96 BBC Radio 5 - Night Call with Nick Robinson Health Education and BSE Sean Gabb 1 hour - with: Donald Reed, Chief Executive Association of Public Heath; Tony Burn, Chief Executive Royal Society of Health. We are still waiting for the millions of deaths from BSE then predicted!

Aug 1989 BBC Radio Stoke on Trent Whether Christians Should Smoke Sean Gabb This is Sean Gabb's first ever radio broadcast. In those days, he was young and a non-smoker - but otherwise much the same as ever!

Here is the pamphlet that led to the appearance.

15/03/89 BBC TV, The Wogan Show Tobacco Taxes Chris R. Tame Dr Tame's first big appearance on television, and a very fine performance. He makes the health fascist against him look nasty, and even admit to being a "fascist". Also of note is Terry Wogan's "hair". This is a sound file of a television broadcast. A DVD is available for 5 inc postage. Ask Sean Gabb for details.
1987 Private Production Maggie's Militants Timothy Evans, Teresa Gorman, Chris Tame, Brian Micklethwait, David Holie, et al The main thesis of this documentary is that libertarians are taking over the Conservative Party, and can be expected to run it in due course. This was at the least an optimistic thesis - as Sean Gabb kept on and on insisting at the time. However, the documentary is a fascinating look at the consensus beliefs and assumptions of the British libertarian movement during the late 1980s.
